About Friendly Community Baptist Church Church

Non-denominational Under 100 people

Our Purpose: Friendly Community Church exist to glorify God, exalt Christ and to reach the lost in our community as well as in the world. We exist to see lives transformed by the power of God through creating Gospel-centered relationships; beginning in our own hearts and overflowing into our families, friends, the community, and the world. We believe the purpose of our church is based on two scriptures: The Great Commandment, Matthew 22:36-40 and The Great Commission, Matthew 28:19-20. We believe every member should be involved in discipleship, evangelism, missions, stewardship, community, worship, family, prayer, and service. We want to honor God as the bride of Christ and be a light in our community.

Our Mission:

Connect to God - creative, fresh and authentic worship. A worshipping people teaches and lives the Bible. Diving into His Word. Prayer.

A Community of Believers - a huge value to the church, be authentic as a church/love people/involvement in small groups.

Changing the World - proactive in evangelism, creating fully devoted followers of Christ

We are passionate about reaching the lost for God, developing loving relationships with our community, and developing strong disciples for Christ.

Our Statement of Faith:

In essential beliefs – we have unity. (Ephesians 4:4-6)

In non-essential beliefs – we have liberty. (Romans 14:1, 4, 12, 22)

In all our beliefs, we show charity (1 Corinthians 13:2)

What we believe:

1.      The Holy Bible was written by men divinely inspired and is God’s revelation of Himself to man. Therefore, all Scripture is totally true and trustworthy.

2.      There is one and only one living and true God. The eternal triune God reveals Himself to us as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, with distinct personal attributes, but without division of nature, essence, or being.

3.      Man is the special creation of God, made in His own image. Only the grace of God can restore man into His holy fellowship and enable man to fulfill the creative purpose of God.

4.      Salvation involves the redemption of the whole man, and is offered freely to all who accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, who by His own blood obtained eternal redemption for the believer.

5.      Because of God’s grace, all true believers endure to the end. Those whom God has accepted in Christ, and sanctified by His Spirit, will never fall away from the state of grace, but shall persevere to the end.

6.      A New Testament church of the Lord Jesus Christ is an autonomous local congregation of baptized believers, associated by covenant in the faith and fellowship of the gospel.

7.      We believe in observing the two ordinances of the church. Christian baptism is the immersion of a believer in water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. The Lord’s Supper is a symbolic act of obedience commemorating the death of Christ for our sins.

8.      The first day of the week is the Lord’s Day. Activities on the Lord’s Day should be commensurate with the Christian’s conscience under the Lordship of Jesus Christ.

9.      God, in His own time and in His own way, will bring the world to its appropriate end. The unrighteous will be consigned to Hell, the righteous in their resurrected and glorified bodies will receive their reward and will dwell forever in Heaven with the Lord.

10.  It is the duty and privilege of every follower of Christ and of every church of the Lord Jesus Christ to endeavor to make disciples of all nations.

11.  God is the source of all blessings, temporal and spiritual; all that we have and are we owe to Him. We are to be responsible in the use of our time and talents and we are required to be faithful in the use of our finances.

12.  All Christians are under obligation to seek to make the will of Christ supreme in our own lives and in human society.

13.  The state owes to every church protection and full freedom in the pursuit of its spiritual ends. In providing for such freedom no ecclesiastical group or denomination should be favored by the state more than others.

14.  God has ordained the family as the foundational institution of human society. Marriage is the uniting of one biological man and one biological woman in covenant commitment for a lifetime. Children, from the moment of conception, are a blessing and heritage from the Lord.

More About Friendly and Our Area:

Ephesians 2:19-22 “So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit.”

Our Congregation: Friendly Community Church, founded in 1948, is located on the outskirts of Burgaw, NC in Pender County. We have a post-covid regular attendance of around 65 people at our 11am worship service and an average attendance of 45 people in our many Sunday school classes. We are a very family-oriented church with a diverse group of younger families as well as senior adults. Friendly Community Church is a strong and growing church who believes in connection and fellowship outside of regular Sunday services.

Friendly Community Church has a wide range of programs for every member of every age. We have Sunday School classes from preschool age on up to senior adults. Our Sunday morning worship service offers worship through song, prayer and through preaching the Word of God. We have a growing youth group from grades 6th-12th that meets on Sunday morning, Wednesday evenings and scheduled events outside of church. During the worship service on Sunday mornings our children are dismissed to Kids Worship where they learn about God in a more relaxed and exciting way that is geared towards teaching them to know Christ, who He really is, building a relationship with Him and glorify Him daily. We reserve the first and fifth Sundays of each month for Family Worship style services. Every Wednesday evening we offer a bible study in a more casual environment where we can interact and learn together. Other events such as Vacation Bible School, Summer Jam, Awana, Habitat for Humanity, serving in our local schools and global mission projects are or have been some important parts of outreach for Friendly. We are a church family with a passion for outreach.
