Re-brand and re-image the current Calvary Baptist Church (CBC) Children’s Ministry vision for the future. Oversee the strengthening, growing and maturing of Calvary’s Sunday School program, Youth Group program, and Family ministry. Ignite a desire for a genuine personal relationship with Christ among CBC children, youth, young adults, and families, and equip them for the spiritual battle they face in today’s socio-economic culture. Promote Scripture memorizing, prayer, personal Bible reading and a biblically based life style among children and families. Ensure the teaching of a Bible based curriculum for children’s and family ministries, while providing opportunities for ministry leadership, outreach to the community, and connection to the mission field.


The Church Leadership (Deacon) Board, on behalf of CBC, working directly under the supervision of the Senior Pastor.  The position will be evaluated every 6 months for the first two years, and annually thereafter, unless otherwise stipulated by the Senior Pastor and Leadership Board.



Responsible for the oversight and/or leadership of the Children’s and Family ministries that include:  Wednesday Night Ministries (Youth Group, AWANA), Sunday School, Children’s Church, Special Events, Vacation Bible School (VBS), Community/Small Group ministry/outreach
Develop a comprehensive Volunteer Policy and Procedure Guide (VPPG), that includes background checks, check-in/out procedures, standards for counseling, and training for: Children’s Ministry, Nursery thru Youth; Youth & Young Adult Ministry; Family Ministry
Recruit, screen, train, pray for, and involve new children’s ministry volunteers
Provide input to and effectively manage the Children’s and Family ministry’s budget
Ensure Children’s and Family ministry’s section on website is effective and current
Communicate consistently with volunteers/lay-leaders, parents, and families, as well as provide the tools they need for spiritual leadership
Assume Pulpit responsibilities in the absence of the Senior Pastor
·         Assist Senior Pastor with Children and/or Family counseling support, as needed



·         Minimum requirements:

o   Licensed (and eligible for Ordination within 6-9 months)

o   Undergraduate level degree, with two years experience, in Continuing Education or child-related field, preferably with theological training

·         Ordained preferred

·         Godly, humble, & exemplary life meeting the standards set forth in 1 Tim 3:1-13 & Titus 1:5-9

·         Able to teach the Scriptures, proclaim the Gospel, make clear the truths & commandments of God’s Word, admonish the erring, warn of doctrinal error, administer the ordinances, equip the saints for service, & give spiritual guidance & counsel to the church body (Eph 4:11-16; Acts 20:17-35; 1 Tim 4:1-16; 2 Tim 4:1-5; & James 3:1-2)

·         Pass a certified Back Ground check

·         Experience in discipleship, shepherding/mentoring, teaching, leadership, and vision casting

·         Familiar with the non-profit budget process

·         Experience with developing, executing, and overseeing/leading Vacation Bible School (VBS), AWANA programs, community/Small Groups (Youth and Adult)

·         Has an awareness of global missions, a desire to engage children and families in the global mission of the local church, and is familiar with Short Term Missions: planning, executing, and leading

·         At least two years previous experience with, or exposure to, the direction and administration of one or more church Children’s Ministries, Family Ministries, Youth Ministries, and/or Discipleship programs

o   Experience with recruiting, screening, motivating, equipping and scheduling volunteer leaders to minister to children and families

o   Demonstrated ability in the development of comprehensive volunteer policy and procedure guidelines for one or more of: Children’s Ministry, Nursery thru Youth; Youth & Young Adult Ministry; Family Ministry

o   Administrative ability to efficiently coordinate multiple events and programs

·         Demonstrated ability to understand and relate to children and their families, and a passion to see families grow biblically in their faith together

·         Proficient in a PC and/or MAC office suite, capacity to learn new software, and able to promote church worship& activities through social media



·         Maintain personal spiritual development through Bible reading, prayer, and Christian community

·         Exhibit professionalism, demonstrated by: a well-groomed appearance, a conscientious work ethic, and an extreme attention to detail with an eye for excellence

·         Be ever conscious of the need for confidentiality, discernment and wise judgment

·         Be a self-starter, good at multi-tasking, prioritizing projects and communicating

·         Endorse and support the local church and her mission, as well as the CBC Covenant, Articles of Faith, BYLAWS, & Policies

·         Support and assist Church Leadership and Trustees with overall safety and security of CBC
