About Central Baptist Church
Central Baptist Church exists as a church to love God, love people, and serve the
world. We do this as one church in two locations - Downtown Springfield and New
Berlin, IL. We are affiliated with American Baptist Churches USA.
We believe God has planted Central Baptist Church in Springfield and New Berlin for
the benefit of our cities. Because He loves, we love. Because He gives, we give. We
are on mission to invest time, energy, prayer, resources, and love into our
communities to make Springfield and New Berlin all they can be – for the glory of God
and the good of humanity. It is our hope and prayer that as we do this, the gift of
Jesus’ love will be experienced and people will come into a relationship with Him.
Our location in Downtown Springfield is right in the heart of our city. We are planted
directly across the street from the Governor’s Mansion, a block away from the state
capitol, and amongst the small business, non-profits, and apartments that make up
our downtown neighborhood. Our great hope is to embody the good news and light
of God in the midst of our neighborhood. We do that through our partnership with our
local elementary school where we help facilitate the library, support an after school
program, and serve in other ways throughout the year, our annual Thanksgiving Day
meal where we make space at the table available for anyone who needs it, a
partnership in a community garden, working with Downtown Springfield Inc., and
coming along side other non-profits and partners who are addressing the needs of
our city. There is much more work to be done but we have experienced God working
in powerful ways in our community.
As an 189 year old church, Central has endured a lot of change and as we continue to
navigate the change of our day we trust that God is working and will work through us
as we follow him in faithfulness. Our city is home to many great churches and we
believe Central has a unique role to fill in God’s kingdom work in Springfield and in
New Berlin. We are excited about the journey God has us on.
