Army Chaplain Job Description
An Army Chaplain provides spiritual leadership, guidance, and pastoral care to soldiers and their families. They support the spiritual well-being of all service members, regardless of faith tradition, while also advising commanders on matters of religion, morals, and morale.
Qualifications
Education:
- Master of Divinity (M.Div.) or equivalent graduate-level theological degree from an accredited institution.
Denominational Endorsement:
- Official endorsement from a recognized religious organization or denomination. Must maintain good standing.
Military Experience:
- Prior military service is beneficial but not required. Must complete the Chaplain Basic Officer Leadership Course.
Pastoral Experience:
Minimum of two years in pastoral leadership, religious education, or chaplaincy.
- Volunteer Work:
- Community outreach, crisis intervention, or counseling in diverse settings.
- Skills and Attributes:
- Strong interpersonal communication, counseling, and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to work in multicultural, interfaith, and high-stress environments.
- Physical and Mental Readiness:
- Meet Army physical fitness and health standards.
