School Calendar Days: 30 hours/week, 8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., some evenings will be required for events and meetings

Overview
The Preschool Director is responsible for providing leadership for the congregation’s Kids First Preschool in accordance with Birmingham First policies and procedures, State of Michigan licensing standards and all federal laws.
The director will create a safe, nurturing, Christian environment for children, parents, and staff to thrive. The director will work with preschool staff to develop appropriate curriculum and is responsible for developing training and continuing education to full compliance. The director is responsible for developing and monitoring the preschool budget, staffing in compliance with Birmingham First hiring procedures, and the development and implementation of performance evaluation systems for preschool staff members. The director is also responsible for all internal and external communications with staff, families, congregation, and community.
As a ministry of the congregation, the preschool and its director will work with and receive support from other leadership staff members in the areas of operations, human resources, finance, and communications.
Education
· Bachelor’s Degree or higher in early childhood education or child development or related field.
· At least 2 semester hours or 3.0 CEUs in childcare administration or have an administrative credential approved by the State of Michigan.
· Alternatives as provided for in the State of Michigan Licensing Rules for Childcare Centers may be considered.
Experience
· Early childhood education experience required including the understanding of developmentally appropriate practices for each age level.
· Experience in staff management and leadership
· Demonstrates excellence in administrative and organizational leadership
· Experience in meeting and exceeding licensing and compliance standards
· Proficiency in all Microsoft Office software
· Experience using enterprise software (databases)
Other Requirements
· Knowledge of all State of Michigan licensing and record keeping requirements
· Ability to respond appropriately in an emergency
· Ability to serve as a teacher and assist in class when needed
· Exemplary communication skills
· CPR and First Aid Certification
Physical Demands/Work Environment
· Work is primarily performed in the preschool environment, which is dynamic with a high level of activity. Work may also be performed off-site (e.g. field trips in the community).
· Candidate must be able to lift 40 pounds, assume postures in low level positions that best allow physical and visual contact with children, bend to perform various tasks numerous times throughout the day, stoop, sit on the floor, have the ability to move from a seated position to a standing position promptly to respond to emergency situations and perform all typical activities with children; jump, run, dance, walk run, etc.
· Work hours will vary to meet the needs of the children, such as special programs and field trips and evening meetings with pre-school committee.
