Worship Pastor

Primary Responsibilities

Worship Leadership and Service Planning

• Plan and lead Sunday morning worship services and special services with reverence, passion, excellence, and theological care.
• Lead worship in both blended and modern worship environments, helping each service remain biblically faithful, congregationally accessible, and aligned with Gospel’s mission.
• Select songs that are biblically accurate, theologically sound, gospel-centered, and appropriate for congregational worship.
• Work closely with the Senior Pastor to plan services that support the sermon theme, prepare hearts for the preaching of God’s Word, and point people to Christ.
• Lead the congregation in worship both vocally and instrumentally, including through piano and guitar.
• Help cultivate worship services that are not performance-driven, but centered on the glory of God, the edification of the church, and the clear proclamation of the gospel.

Worship Team Development and Discipleship

• Recruit, train, schedule, encourage, and shepherd worship ministry volunteers.
• Lead worship rehearsals with preparation, clarity, prayer, encouragement, and spiritual intentionality.
• Disciple musicians, vocalists, and worship leaders toward spiritual maturity, humility, faithfulness, teachability, and excellence.
• Build a worship ministry culture marked by unity, preparation, accountability, and joy.
• Help volunteers understand that worship leadership is both musical service and spiritual leadership.
• Navigate generational preferences and strong opinions with wisdom, diplomacy, humility, and emotional intelligence.

Musical and Technical Leadership

• Lead worship both solo and with a band.
• Ideally comfortable on both piano and guitar, with the skill needed to lead both contemporary and traditional worship environments.
• Provide leadership for worship arrangements, transitions, rehearsal preparation, and musical direction.
• Maintain working knowledge of worship-related audio/visual technology, including tools such as ProPresenter, in-ear monitors, editing/uploading, and related systems.
• Collaborate well with existing AV/tech leadership while bringing enough technical understanding to support effective worship ministry.

Staff Collaboration and Churchwide Ministry

• Work with the Senior Pastor and staff to shepherd the church and support the overall vision and direction of Gospel Baptist Church.
• Participate in staff meetings, planning rhythms, and ministry collaboration.
• Serve as a full-time member of the ministry team with a willingness to support other ministry needs as able and gifted.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will be a pastorally mature worship leader who loves Jesus, loves the local church, and is passionate about leading people to worship God in spirit and truth.

• Meets the biblical qualifications for pastoral leadership found in 1 Timothy 3:1–7, Titus 1:6–9, and 1 Peter 5:1–3.
• Has a growing relationship with Jesus Christ and a life marked by spiritual maturity, humility, integrity, and teachability.
• Agrees with Gospel Baptist Church’s purpose, mission, values, and statement of faith.
• Demonstrates the ability to lead worship with reverence, passion, clarity, and excellence.
• Can lead confidently in both blended and modern worship environments.
• Able to sing and play both piano and guitar for worship leadership.
• Has leadership ability to manage and develop volunteers, leaders, and ministry teams.
• Demonstrates high emotional intelligence, strong communication skills, a strong work ethic, and the ability to lead across generations.
• Has working knowledge of worship technology and the ability to collaborate with AV/tech volunteers and leaders.
• Brings a successful track record of previous ministry or worship leadership experience.
• Master’s degree in worship, music, ministry, theology, or a related field preferred; candidates with a bachelor’s degree who are pursuing or open to pursuing further theological or ministry education may also be considered.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this role is $60,000–$70,000, based on experience and qualifications.
